Face Climbing: Definition

Face climbing is the act of ascending rock faces by using holds on a rock face, including pockets, edges, and smears to make upward progress, rather than crack climbing.

Face Climbing:
Redefined by OOTWO

The act of ascending “THE FACE” in the Cydonia region of MARS.
Any climber knows that the north face of Everest or most any other mountain is often the most difficult, cold and unforgiving route imaginable.  Well, now there is a “Face Route” that is more difficult and unforgiving than anything ever seen on Earth.  That is because it is not on Earth.

Welcome to “The Face”.

Discovered by the Viking 1 mission on July 25th, 1976 “The Face” is located at 40°75' north laritude and 9°46' west longitude on Mars and measures 1.5 miles long, 1.2 miles wide and 1,584 feet high.  It is not the climb that is all that unforgiving, it is surviving the climb to the summit that may get you.  From this point on the “Face” route is the route that all others will be measured against.
